From university lab
to production AI
Mentis was founded in January 2005 as a spin-off of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Twenty years on, we are still a small, senior team in Brussels doing one thing: putting machine learning to work for organizations.
Who we are
A Belgian AI company with academic roots and an engineering mindset.
Mentis grew out of machine-learning research at ULB. The founding team kept the habits of the lab — measure, compare, publish what works — and applied them to real business problems.
We assess AI readiness and EU AI Act exposure, then build and operate the systems: generative-AI assistants over your own documents, predictive models, optimization engines — on-premise or EU-hosted. We also ship two products, KnowledgeRAG and OptimizeFlow. Our founder is an Independent AI Expert for the European Commission.
Mid-market organisations in regulated, data-sensitive sectors across Belgium and Luxembourg — financial services, legal, healthcare, public sector, manufacturing & logistics, professional services — from a first readiness assessment to multi-year platform work.

A model is only useful once it is deployed, monitored and maintained. We design for that from the first sprint.
